What is Phishing Attack?

A fraudulent attempt is made to acquire confidential information such as

  • Usernames
  • Passwords
  • PIN
  • Credit card numbers

Attackers send fake emails and/or redirect innocent users to a fake website, which looks identical to the original website. Users are then induced to submitting their personal information, which can then be exploited.

Such an attack is known as a Phishing Attack.

 

What are the threats?

  1. Victims lose their personal and financial information to an unknown source.
  2. Victims unknowingly download contaminant on their systems or networks.

 

What are the risks?

Cyber criminals exploit the victims’ personal information to

  • Harass them
  • Cyber stalk them
  • Hold them to ransom for monetary benefit

Additionally, financial information is exploited causing financial loss to the victim.

Malware successfully installed on the victim’s system allows remote access to the criminal for stealing vital information or misusing the system for other criminal activities.
